England Ladies to Visit BRCC

Just to remind everyone that we have been awarded an Ambassador Ladies Cricket Festival from the ECB - the only one awarded in Yorkshire. This national initiative, to support the development and growth of women and girls cricket, will see BRCC W&G host a two day cricket coaching festival which will be attended by two of the succesful England ladies first team  - including star player Nicky Shaw.

The event runs from 10am to 4 pm on Monday 24th August and Tuesday 25th August. Booking form will be listed on the home page shortly and will be emailed to all members of the W&G section for whom we have details. This event is open to the whole of Yorkshire so 'book early'.

Training

Reverts back to BRCC on Mondays from 20th July. 7pm until 830pm.

Yorkshire Ladies 1st Team 20-20 Warm Up

If anyone is interetsted the Yorkshire first team are playing a 20-20 warm up game at New Rover on Tuesday 21st July. Play starts at 630. If anyone is interetsed in going but needs a lift email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will see what we can do.

Nidderdale Dinner

Details for the Nidderdale Evening League Annual Dinner will be posted here very soon. We will be taking a table. If anyone is interested in attending please let me know asap.

Winter Plans

We are intending organising winter practice. If you know of anyone who is interested in playing but hasn;t had chance to join us please let them know. We will probably start after the October half term and train once a fortnight up to Xmas and again until the February half term after Xmas. We will the organise more regular practice as the season approaches.

There will be a charge to cover the hire of the hall of £3.00 per session.

W&G Committee 2010.

The Club (BRCC) and the Nidderdale League rules mean that we must formulate a W&G committee for next season. This also means that we will also need an AGM in the New Year. We appreciate that its a thankless task but the following posts must be filled for us to manage the section.

  • Chair
  • Hon. Secretary
  • Fixture/Cancellations Secretary
  • Team Manager
  • Hon. Treasurer
  • Junior Manager.

Other positions are automatically co-opted onto the committee including Captain and Vice Captain of any senior teams. Head Coach and the Groundsman. Other positions can be co-opted so if you think we need a Social Sec or a Catering Sec just let me know. Please give this some thought and drop me, AJ or Frank Taylor a note if you are prepared to stand for the committee.

BRCC and Old Mods.

We have agreed in principle to co-associate the BRCC W&G section to Premier League team Old Modernians who play most of their games at Cookridge. Under this agreement players of BRCC and Old Mods are automatically members of each others clubs. BRCC players may be asked to assist and play in the Premier League matches and in return a number of Old Mods players will play for BRCC. The aim of this is to promote the development of both clubs and to encourage the cricket development of our younger and less experienced players with the support of players from the highest womens cricket league underneath the county and national teams. This initiative will be controlled under a Memorandum of Understanding and has been facilitated by the ECB. Old Mods have agreed to play at least one of their home games at BRCC next season.

Friendly Games

We are still lookingto organise some friendly games if anyone is interested. Please let me know if this is the case and when you are available.

Facebook/Emails/Mobile Numbers

Why not subscribe to the BRCC Ladies Group in Facebook.
We also do not have mobile numbers and current email contact details for all the players. Please let me have your latest contact details as we aim to communicate by the web site, facebook, email and SMS.

..................and finally.

Please visit the website news page frequently over the next 2-4 weeks. We are expecting a lot of news updates.

Remember to book early for the Festval.

BRCC ladies made history yesterday when they recorded their first ever win in a senior game.

In a match against Green Hammerton reduced to 16 overs, Skipper Steff Peel won the toss and elected to bat. Having lost the two openers cheaply the innings was built around two solid knocks by Steff and Florence 'Floz' Haines. When Steff was eventually out with a couple of overs to go Lottie Driver and then Laura Scarlett joined Florence to see the innings close on 59 for 4 after the 4 overs. The pitch was quite slow and the accurate bowling from Green Hammerton made scoring difficult.

It seemed clear that to defend this total early wickets would be crucial. Opener Naimee Pratt delivered emphatically. Bowling a scorching spell Naimee dismissed Green Hammertons top 4 batters and was admirably supported by Lauren Oxtoby who kept things quiet at the one end whilst the fireworks were delivered from the other.

After 8 overs the opposition were 4 down but were well up with the run rate. Fortunately the first change were inspired by the openers and both stand in opener Chloe Dinsdale and batting mainstay Florence Haines bowled accurate spells and continued to take wickets. With excellent support in the field including top work from debutants Sandra Scarlett and Mary Colson, superb work from Cat Whitehead close in, and with Steff and Viv Preston chipping in with vital catches, Green Hammerton were left with 42 for 9 after their spell.

This was a game played in fantastic spirit by both sides, so thanks to the ladies of Green Hammerton for their hospitality.

Congratulations to all who played.

RESULT: BRCC won by 15 runs.
MVP: Naimee Pratt 4 for 17 cruclal wickets.

Hi,

The first two ladies games ever in the club's history have been played and after a bit of a wake up call against Pool  last Thursday,  the team performed really well against Glasshouses on Tuesday. Two losses but already massive signs of improvement. Well done everyone.

I am also pleased to report that I am finally making progress with some junior fixtures and should be able to make an announcement  in the next few days.

If you are selected, please let me know asap if you are available to play or not and if it is an away game whether you can drive other players, need a lift or will go straight there. We will try and share lifts where possible. You can either do this by emailing or texting Neil Scarlett. It would be good to have some supporters at games too. Transport is an issue so any help with this is much appreciated.

Hopefully most of you will have returned registration forms and money/cheque for subs by now - if not please do so a.s.a.p.  If you need a form ask me or download from website  http://brcc.co.uk/s.LM09. Those selected for games will pay match fees of  £3.00 home games and £1.00 away games, please bring this with you to the game. This money will cover food, tea, coffee, squash etc. The home team has to provide 'teas' for the visitors. Sandra has offered to sort out the teas for our home games, any assistance will be most welcomed.

We now have a set of 'club shirts' to be worn during games, they will be collected by me at the end of the game and washed for next time. If anyone would like their own shirt then please fill in and return the form below with money and we will order them together. The price includes an embroidered logo and you can add initials, (max 3, right breast) and/or name across shoulders. Please ask Neil for a form if you are interested.

Finally, it is the Ben Rhydding Community Fete on Saturday 20th June. We have offered to provide a stall or game to promote the Ladies section and also possibly make some funds. We will need some of the team - in club kit - to run the stall. Again - volunteers and/or ideas please let me know asap.

Thanks,

Neil
